Deducing His Home Country

Please note these are general observations from the book "Employee Body Language Revealed," and that these rules are not absolute. I do not own any of the images used in this post.

Australia
-maintain eye contact in conversations
-firm handshake
-somewhat reserved; do not show intense emotion publicly





Canada
-firm handshake
-eye contact important


China
-business cards presented with two hands
-never interrupt conversations
-don't shake hands with people of polar opposite social statuses
-nods, bows, handshakes






England
-greet with handshake
-avoid eye contact, staring

France
-always carry business cards
-quick handshakes
-smile with friends only
-mouth covered by hands: apology








Germany:
-quick handshakes, slight bow when meeting
-large personal space bubble
-"okay" hand sign may be offensive

Greece
-handshake, kiss on cheek when greeting
-avoid waving their hands goodbye
India
-hands held together, slight bow when meeting
-men shake hands with others of the same gender
-don't cross their legs
-no public displays of affection








Italy
-elbow grasp, handshake when meeting
-hug and kiss on cheeks when meeting friends
-drumming fingers on the chin is rude




Japan
-give business cards with both hands, palms out
-never interrupt conversations
-slight/gentle handshake and bow when meeting







Russia
-firm handshake, without gloves (one glove is taken off for the handshake)
-smile with friends
-loud laughter is rude
-strong hugs, kiss on cheek


Saudi Arabia 
-don't point with index finger
-use only right hand in daily tasks (eg eating)
-remain close in proximity during conversations








Spain
-handshake, pat on shoulder/back hen meeting
-avoid public yawning, stretching
-hands are out of pockets during conversations







Sweden
-keep eye contact during discussion
-quick, firm handshake
-don't interrupt conversations









Turkey
-"enclosed handshakes"(pg 216)
-kisses on cheek when meeting










USA
-firm handshake
-eye contact important
